Sammanfattning
The author discusses previous interpretations of a handful of coastal names from Jæren (south-western Norway): Gjøringane, Klakken, Raunen, Tjør, Alstein and Feisteinen. Some onomasticians have previously provided a somewhat unsatisfactory explanation for these names, apparently due to certain methodological challenges and weaknesses. The author discusses the inherited local pronunciation, grammatical form, older forms, etymology, topography and possible meaning and background of the names. Significant emphasis is placed on reliable information about the pronunciation of the names in the local dialect.
